Last weekend, city officials broke ground on a new section at Nunzio DiMarca, a park situated along Lawrence’s Spicket River Greenway. Although officials didn’t disclose what the new section will be, its addition will join a list of park amenities that already include a “rain garden, an arboretum, and a ferrous terrace.”
Prior to the ceremony, Dawn’s Sign Tech had the honor of creating a new sign for Nunzio Dimarca. Situated at the park’s entrance, the new sign, which features royal blue paint & sharp letters, was created using a Baskerville font.
“We’ve been doing park signs for the City of Lawrence for many years,” Dawn Pease, owner of Dawn’s Sign Tech, recently said about the custom sign. “This year, we ran into a problem securing the cedar required to make the park signs. Generally, we use cedar because park signs can take a lot of abuse from vandals. Normally, we could wait a few months to try to get the required cedar, but there was to be a big ceremony for the unveiling of the sign and we had no choice but to go a different route.”
Instead of using cedar, Dawn’s Sign Tech used HDU (or high-density urethane), which can mimic the appear of cedar, and supported it with aluminum composite material.
“Sometimes the signs are left alone. I’m hoping this is one of the ones that won’t get hit with anything,” Pease said.
