Be aware of price comparisons. This is extremely important. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
For instance my sign box I just quoted for you is $2400. The other guy gives you a quote for the same size sign box and it is only $1500. How can that be? Makes no sense since you are using the same materials. Not so. Make sure you read all details and if you don’t understand what they mean make sure you ask. You asked for an electrical sign box. I quoted LED lights because they last for a very long time and require no maintenance. The other guy quoted fluorescent bulbs. Sure both are lighted sign boxes but his is going to require several service trips. Bulbs need replacing, sockets corrode, ballasts fail. Each time your sign doesn’t light up it’s another trip out and parts you are charged for.
Not to say I can’t make you a box with bulbs, because I can. Just be sure you are getting the same product quoted when you compare. If it looks identical ask more questions, especially about insurance. He may be able to beat my price because he isn’t paying for the same coverage.
Recently I quoted a digital readerboard for a client and the competition came in lower by almost $2000! If you read the detail it was almost identical. ALMOST. The sign he quoted was a much lower resolution than the one I did and the only difference in the wording was the pitch. The what? Mine said 10 and his said 20. Of course the customer doesn’t know what that means. Sometimes the sign guy doesn’t either. But I do. The lower the pitch the higher the resolution. Mine was a higher resolution. When we looked at the fine print his said the product was coming from China, there was a 2 year warranty on parts only and software training was supplied by a website link. My product came from California, had a 5 year warranty on parts and labor and my supplier would go to her office for however long she needed and would sit with her and teach her how to use the software. And he would give her his cell # to call anytime.
Two thousand dollars doesn’t look like a big difference when you know what’s being offered. If you have questions about quotes you have received give us a call. We can look it over and answer all your questions and give you an honest answer. There have been times when I have been able to say to a client “it’s a good product at a good price, sorry but I can’t beat it”.
