It’s very exciting opening a new business. Designing a new logo, picking out what town and what building you want that business to be in. But beware: some towns in new England do not allow self-illuminated signs. Some building owners want only specific sign types or colors on the building.
Imagine the taking the time to design that perfect logo with colors that jump, and then the landlord tells you “all signs on the building have to be black and gold, it’s in your lease”. Or you buy into a franchise that says you have to have channel letters but the town doesn’t allow them. So these are things you need to check into BEFORE you sign the lease. Don’t get stuck somewhere you don’t want to be with signs you don’t want.
I had a client who thought he had found the perfect place, signed the lease ordered his sign, then was told he couldn’t have the $200 sign he wanted. He had to purchase a $2000 sign that he did not budget for.
Read the lease thoroughly before signing. If you need help……call the local sign guy. We know the regulations for all the surrounding towns and we know most of the building owners and what their requirements are.
